A very hapy New Year to all our "Amazing Adventurers" and their friends and families. We are really looking forward to another action packed term.
In English we will be continuing with Read Write Inc approach. For Year 1 our focus will remain to develop speedy phonic skills in preparation for the phonics assessment in May but these skills may then be used when spelling as well as reading. We will also be examining spelling patterns and ways to support learning spellings as well as looking at some of the rules for grammar. As the children become more confident with phonics then the emphasis changes more onto comprehension when reading and the development of fluency and expression. Year 2 will be busy developing their reading stamina and comprehension along with their awarenress of grammar and ability to spell. We will start the term with work on poetry.
In Maths our focus will be on developing our ability to recall key facts and to calculate mentally as we build on last term's learning . We will be using and applying our skills and knowledge to problem solve. Topics covered this term will include 3D shape, time, money and shopping as well as measurement of weight and capacity.
Our topics of this half term will be Winter and Florence Nightingale.
